LV2 Certificate in Gym Instructing Scheme of Work
This scheme of work outlines the estimated time commitment required for Unit 1 of the Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing. The course is delivered through a combination of directed self-study and guided learning. The FRF Education Hub provides structured, step-by-step lessons that guide learners through the unit, with support from their assigned tutor/assessor.
This unit is divided into seven sections, each focusing on a different aspect of anatomy, physiology, and fitness:

Section 2: The Neuromuscular System
Section 3: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems
Section 4: Energy Systems
Section 5: The Digestive System
Section 6: Health and Wellbeing
Section 7: Components of Fitness and the Effects of Exercise
Reading the Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing Manual (Pages 3-73):
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours
Description: Learners are required to thoroughly read and understand the specified pages of the manual. This foundational knowledge is crucial for the successful completion of the unit.
Completing the E-learning Lessons on the Active IQ Platform:
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours
Description: Interactive e-learning modules provided by Active IQ reinforce the knowledge gained through reading and offer additional context and examples.
Post-Learning Check on the Active IQ Platform:
Estimated Time: 1 hour
Description: A self-assessment quiz to test the learner's understanding of the material covered in the e-learning lessons.
Optional Quiz on the FRF Education Hub:
Estimated Time: 1 hour
Description: An additional quiz available on the Education Hub for learners who wish to further assess their knowledge before the theory exam.
Pre-Theory Exam Preparation with Tutor:
Estimated Time: Up to 1 hour
Description: Learners have the option to book a session with their tutor for guided learning, where they can review difficult concepts, ask questions, and receive personalized feedback.
Principles of Anatomy, Physiology, and Fitness Theory Paper:
Format: Externally set multiple-choice question paper
Time Allowed: 105 minutes
Number of Questions: 50
Pass Mark: 70%
Open Book: Yes
Retake Policy: The test can be taken as many times as necessary.
Mock Exam: Learners have the option to take a mock exam before attempting the real test.
Scheduling: The test needs to be organized with the learner's assigned tutor/assessor.
Total Directed Self-Study Hours: 6-8 hours
Total Guided Learning Hours: Up to 1 hour
Total Assessment Time: 105 minutes (plus any additional time for retakes)
This scheme of work is designed to provide a flexible learning schedule that allows learners to progress at their own pace while ensuring they receive the necessary support to succeed in their assessments.
